Known Issues & Watch Points

V8 4.8 T timing chain tensioners

Critical

The 4.8 T V8 engine (Turbo, Turbo S) can suffer timing chain tensioner failure, particularly on earlier 92A cars. Cold start rattles that persist beyond a few seconds warrant immediate investigation. Parts and labour can be significant.

Air suspension compressor

Important

The air suspension compressor is a common failure point on 92A Cayennes, particularly on cars over 60,000 miles. Replacement cost is £800–£2,000 depending on which components require replacement.

Coolant pipe leaks

Watch

Plastic coolant pipes and fittings can crack with age and heat cycling. Check for any sweet smell or visible coolant residue around the engine bay.

Intervals are general guidance. Always refer to your car's Maintenance Booklet and consult a qualified Porsche specialist. Known issues are documented based on commonly reported patterns — not every car will be affected.
