Porsche Boxster/Cayman
718
Performance— 4 options
Adds Sport and Sport Plus modes, dynamic engine mounts (PADM), and launch control on PDK cars. Standard on GTS 4.0. Important caveat on GT4 and GT4 RS: on those cars Sport Chrono (639) functions as a timer only — it does not change driving modes, as confirmed by owners. On all other 718 variants, Sport Chrono is the primary performance mode enabler. Highly sought-after on the UK used market.
Switchable sports exhaust with bypass valve. Standard on GTS 4.0 and GT4 RS. The naturally aspirated 4.0-litre 718 GTS and GT4 produce a distinctive, characterful flat-six sound that is significantly enhanced by PSE. On turbocharged 718 S and standard models, PSE remains meaningful but the naturally aspirated cars are the ones where the acoustic uplift is most dramatic.
7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, available on non-GT4 718 variants. Enables launch control with Sport Chrono. The GT4 uses a 6-speed manual as standard with no PDK option.
Standard gearbox on the GT4 and GT4 RS. A pure manual driving experience that the GT4's naturally aspirated flat-six rewards significantly. On non-GT4 variants, the 6-speed manual is an alternative to PDK and has considerable enthusiast appeal.
Chassis— 4 options
Factory ceramic composite brakes with yellow calipers. Optional on all 718 variants. The same high replacement costs apply as on the 911 range — inspect disc vanes carefully. PTV+ (electronic diff, 221) is not available on any 718/Cayman — the mechanical PTV (220) is the only differential option.
Electronically controlled adaptive dampers with Normal and Sport modes. Optional on base and S; standard on GTS 4.0, GT4, GT4 RS, and Spyder.
Mechanical limited-slip differential with brake-based torque vectoring. Standard on GTS 4.0, GT4, and GT4 RS; optional on other variants. A significant handling upgrade, particularly on rear-wheel-drive variants. Note: PTV+ (221) was never available on any Boxster/Cayman variant.
Lowered sport suspension with firmer spring rates versus the standard PASM setup. A sharper handling setup at the cost of ride comfort on UK urban roads.
Technology— 2 options
Front and rear parking sensors with integrated reversing camera. The 718 was the first Boxster/Cayman generation to offer a factory reversing camera — it was not available on the 987 or early 981. A practical convenience on a car with limited rearward visibility.
Radar-based adaptive cruise control. A standard expectation for UK buyers using the car on motorways.
Option availability varies by variant and model year. SA codes are factory order codes — verify against a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA). Listing counts update in real time.
